How to turn a photo into a coloring page with AI
Convert a rights-cleared photo into line art with AI, then repair, test, and color it in your browser. Photo AI needs a Google sign-in and a Pro or Studio plan.
What you need
A photo you own or have permission to use — a pet, object, or place with no people — and a browser. Photo AI needs a Google sign-in and a Pro or Studio plan. Your browser strips embedded metadata and resizes the photo, then sends this normalized copy once through Cloudflare to OpenAI's GPT Image 1.5 model; the photo is held only in temporary memory and never saved.
Step 1 — Choose and crop your photo
Open Photo AI, choose a JPG or PNG from your phone or computer, then frame the main subject.
Step 2 — Confirm and convert with AI
Photo AI converts the photo into line art with AI in about 35 seconds. Close visible gaps, erase stray marks, and test the areas you plan to color.
Step 3 — Color now, or optionally test fills first
You can continue your line art to Online Coloring right away — no test is required. If you want a quick check first, the optional fill test lets you tap three separate areas; when a fill leaks or covers too much, you can repair the gap and test again, or simply continue coloring.
Which photos work well
One clear subject, good light, and a simple background. Pets, houses, and favorite toys convert most reliably — Photo AI accepts only photos with no people or faces; very dark or cluttered photos make cluttered line art.
What happens to your photo
The photo exists only in temporary memory during the conversion and is never saved. The finished line art is kept privately for up to 24 hours so you cannot lose a finished result, and only the line art enters the Online Coloring handoff after you choose to continue.
